Entry One

Entry Three

Look's like some people didn't submit on time, but nevermind!

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Ok lah I'm sorry Des for saying that you were cheating. Hahahaha.

Congratulations Oracle, I see you are on a roll. A roll that will end in tears when I find the kindred-est spirits of all next week! Wahaha!

Thank you for judging, Nicolette. Or should I say, Yo, Little Pelican. What an awesome name that is.

So our theme is Kindred Spirits and our next judge is Nadia. Photos of cows will be disqualified. I think the same people are playing with the addition of Zara Fung.

oh the suspense

hello people who spent the week taking photos!

ok like huimin said, this is an unbiased opinion and all so i cannot be subjected to any form of resentment or whatever. hmm okay so the yellow elk has informed me of certain unscrupulous tendencies by a certain emo kid(cough dessy! cough) amidst us, and has prompted me to in her words, 'minus marks'. Seeing how i have no idea who took what photo, this is not very possible so anyway here goes:

and the winner is........ENTRY THREE!!!  (what did'cha expect? im a sucker for stuff like that)

consolation goes to....ENTRY TWO! (congrats)

i suppose if a less fluffy person was the judge entry two would win but since its me, go cute bear!

and now the theme for next week is...

KINDRED SPIRIT

ciao bella:)

And the winner of Five Shades of Gold is... The Oracle! YAY.

Okay Huimin has chosen our next theme, which is...
Like a fat kid loves cake!
How cute is that right?

And the next judge will be Nicolette.

Anyway just to make clear the contestants this week:

yellow elk
the oracle
dessy
shu
wp

Ok, bye bye.

And the winner is...

Hi guys and girls!

Ok so let's all remember how this is a totally unbiased opinion. I don't know whose picture is whose and all that. And for diplomacy's sake I am not going to disclose the reason for my choice.

I'm the judge- so DEAL WITH IT.

(hahahahahahahah ok let me revel in my ultimate power for a few more seconds..)

and the winner for this weeks theme, Five Shades of Gold is....

ENTRY ONE!

congratulations!

Consolation prize goes to: ENTRY TWO

Good job folks (:

now someone tell me who I picked. haha

You know, judges don't have to explain their choices every week. It's OK, people. Discretion is a judge's prerogative. Haha anyway congratulations Shu.

Desmond has chosen a (wonky) theme for this week - Five shades of gold.

swedish house mafia says:
five shades of gold?

bobthemob. says:
yes

swedish house mafia says:
did you just randomly produce tt to torture us?

bobthemob. says:
of cours not!

swedish house mafia says:
or are you like a closet goldfish lover?

bobthemob. says:
neither

I think the new judge will be Huimin, even though I haven't asked her yet, haha. And WP said she's joining but maybe she won't want to after that theme. Hahaha.
so its my turn to judge. so lets see.

pic 1 is nice. has a nice faded effect to it. macro? well done. i dunno if that particular passage is significant. the light at the top left hand corner is really annoying though. it kinda spoils the whole faded look. truth, hm i can see it. the truth too, since that is what christians stand by. ok yea yea. i shall not ramble.

photo 2 is well, interesting in a weird way. ok, its weird. rather random. i like how its taken in a mirror and therefore reversed. its got the whole reflection on the self thing going on.

photo 3. similar to photo 1. i like how the dictionary is so much thicker than the bible, knowledge vs belief. so, what is the truth? the surface reminds me of a dessert.

well, the winner, is photo... 3! i really like the juxtaposition of what we perceive as knowlegde, vs faith. also, i pick it because its quite subtle, as opposed to the open-book photo 1.

congrats, photographer 3.

The Truth

Entry by The Oracle

Entry by yellow elk

Entry by Shu (Winner)

Monday, March 31, 2008

The winning pic belongs to yellow elk! Congrads on winning 2 weeks in a row.

This week's theme is The Truth, which is another challenging one. And our judge will be Desmond.

Also, yellow elk and I have decided that we will have a new rule: captions should not provide the sole linkage between the picture and the theme.

In other words, the photograph has to speak for itself and relate to the theme on it's own. And so if we take away all captions used, the photo would still be relevant to the theme. After all, this is a photography contest and not a caption contest.

Cheers all, have a nice week! Get trigger-happy with the cameras too!

THE RESULTS!

Hello mello! it's a Very Sick Zara with a Very Disobedient Stomach here judging TAGB this week, and I must say it's a great honour :D Anyhow, this week's theme is Loss, and out of all three entries i think Entry Two came out tops! The other two photos are equally good though - Entry One is aesthetically gorgeous (although it didn't quite capture loss to me), and Entry Three comes across as genuinely heartfelt, albeit being a little hard to interpret. So kudos to those two entries! However, I think what makes Entry Two really stand out for me is the incorporation of Long Distance II - I think those words really made the impact of the photo all the more stronger. Also, the soft, sepia tones of the photo really brings across the tenderness of the emotion, and I really like the angle at which the photo was taken (: I reallyreallyreallyreally love it. hahaha. So once again, congrats Photographer #2!

Please pray I get well soon and that my tummy will give me a break ):

I'm so happy that I won something. Hahaha I was sick of looking at the zero next to my name on the scoreboard.

OK anyway, this week's theme is Loss, which I think will be pretty tricky.

And the judge for this week is Zara.

And the award goes to...

Photographer #1!

I like the colour and line composition of the photo, very simplistic, very gorgeous. (And the Ray Lamontagne lyrics are equally beautiful, haha). The second photo is interesting but not quite spectacular. Can I ask, why plants? Hahaha. Good job, Oracle & elk!

Okay so that's done for the 2nd round of TAGB. Congratulations to dessy!

Ethel has chosen next week's theme in line with Easter:

Life!

(She said she initially wanted eggs and bunnies, haha.)

And our judge for next week is... Wan Ping!

Whee. Let the fun begin.

JUDGEMENT DAY

Hello! Haha this is wierd, judging photos by one contestant, but awesome photos yellowelk and we hope to the oracle gets well soon!

ITS A REAL HONOR TO BE JUDGING, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MY THE ORACLE AND YELLOWELK FOR THIS GREAT HONOR AND RESPONSOBILITY AND yadayadayada..

I actually really like both photos! This is hard to judge because they are so different! I thought the caption for the first photo was brilliant! and you know i have a soft spot for poor old cleaning uncles :( and that photo captured him in all his backbreaking toil! with of course his handydandy instrument/broom.
and i liked the second one because of the hearts hearts hearts hearts! :)
But, hmm, i declare photo #1-portrait of a rockstar as the winner! because it was captured "in the moment" (i quote mr jeow).
Haha congratulations yellowelk! :)

EDIT by The Oracle:
Oopsy daisy. I think there's been a slight misconception! This week's winner is actually dessy! Dessy just joined TAGB this week and so the 2 entries aren't both from yellow elk.

Note to bear in mind in future: the submissions post with all the entries in one will appear "posted by XXX". This doesn't mean that XXX posted all 3 photos. It's just this way because we want the judging to be based at an anonymous level so as to prevent bias, and Blogger doesn't allow individual anonymous posting. And so who ever has his/her name appear as the poster is actually just the one that submitted the latest.

OK, yay, our first week's attempt was mostly successful so GOOD ON US. Thank you Shu for being our first guest judge.

I think there are some people (OK maybe Desmond only) who want to join the fray this week. If you do, you have to say (declare yourself! like contraband!), and pronto! By... umm... let's say Wednesday. If nobody enters we're just gonna continue on with the 2 of us for this week!

Anyway, this is the important part:

This week's Guest Judge is Ethel.

This week's Theme is Musical Affairs. (chosen, once again, by Shu. That's your last time Shu!)

(If there are new contestants, I will elaborate on our admin-approved methods of posting entries. Yes, we have a new method, created in the name of fairness.)

The Winner For This Week's Contest

OK firstly WOW THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'M BLOGGING. Like wow! OK. Now back to the contest. The very first theme for this very cool contest was 'Empty Spots'. I liked the two entries very much but as everyone knows- there can only be one winner (yes this cheesy line was necessary). I liked The Oracle's use of space and use of everyday objects to bring out this theme subtly. I liked Yellow Elk's interpretation of empty spots- like that of an empty stare of a sad woman. The winner for this week however is ....
THE ORACLE! I liked the use of space and the colours in the picture that made the empty spots more prominant and eye catching. And now we shall await the new theme for next week .... and I shall be participating (I would love to!) and will The Oracle retain her position as the winner? Or will Yellow Elk cause an upset and win next week's contest? Stay tuned.

OK I kind of cheated by taking a photo of a photo, albeit a photo that I did stuff to. Haha!

Monday, March 3, 2008

Yellow Elk and The Oracle are proud to present: Through a Glass Brightly! A weekly game of photography and creativity.

This week's theme is Empty Spots.

This week's judge is Shu Wen (and she chose the theme).

This is the first (of many, hopefully) week of the game. Entries must be submitted by Sunday, 12pm.

Oracle, you are going down!
